Morningside Theatre Company is hiring staff for their 2025 Summer Programming!

ABOUT MTC: Morningside Theatre Company offers opportunities for young artists to produce quality theatre. We create a safe space for youth to gather as a community, where each student’s role is valued as an equal part of the whole. We offer year round show intensives, community events, intergenerational productions and educational classes. We work fast and fun to bring the best of everyone’s abilities to each production. This summer, MTC will feature over 250 student actors within the seven camps opportunities.

Finding Nemo KIDS (Two Sessions, completed 2nd-5th) - These two-week theatre intensives culminate in a 30-minute kids musical, with three performances for each session. 

The Jungle Book KIDS (Two Sessions, completed 2nd-5th) - These two-week theatre intensives culminate in a 30-minute kids musical, with three performances for each session. 

Something Rotten JR (Two Sessions, completed 6th-9th) -  These three-week theatre intensives culminate in a 60-minute junior musical, with three performances for each session. 

Pippin (completed 8th-12th) - This three-week theatre all-day intensive culminates in a full length musical, with four performances. Pippin is performed offsite at Hopkins High School.

MTC is seeking to hire a Stage Manager for Finding Nemo KIDSThe Jungle Book KIDS (Two Sessions Each). 

Specific duties include:

  • Prep - prepare sign-in sheets and rehearsal reports, 1-2 prep meetings.

  • Start of Day/End of Day - space prep, check in with director and teen volunteers, lead check-in/out, name tags, welcome campers, alerting director/contacting family if a student is late/absent, clean-up. 

  • Rehearsal - join/lead warmup game, maintain schedule, take photos/choreography videos, formation/process notes, run lines with small groups, focus reminders, run music tracks during rehearsals, assist director, lead teen volunteers. 

  • Breaks - oversee kids outside, engage in welcoming conversations, connect friendships, set a timer and give minute warnings. 

  • Tech/Shows - on book for run-throughs, facilitate and oversee set changes, assist with costume quick changes and backstage traffic, point person for questions and support. 

Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years of age

  • High School Graduate 

  • Various experience working with children and youth 

  • Experience in theatre education and love helping young actors shine onstage

  • Strong organizational skills

Specific duties include:

  • Start of Day/End of Day - space prep, check in with director and teen volunteers, assist with check-in/out, name tags, welcome campers, alerting director/contacting family if a student is late/absent, clean-up. 

  • Rehearsal - join warmup games, maintain schedule, take photos/choreography videos, formation/process notes, run lines with small groups, focus reminders, assist with craft times, run music tracks during rehearsal, assist director. 

  • Breaks - oversee kids outside, engage in welcoming conversations, connect friendships, set a timer and minute warnings. 

  • Tech/Shows - facilitate and oversee set changes, assist with costume quick changes and backstage traffic, offer various backstage support. 

  • Designer Assistant - assist lead designers in tasks and projects related to set, props and costume, assist designers with prep and oversee cast craft/prop making/painting, assist in costume fittings, and assist with dressing rooms.

Qualifications:

  • At least 16 years of age

  • Various experience working with youth 

  • Experience in theatre education and love helping young actors shine onstage

MTC is seeking to hire an Activities Coordinator for Finding Nemo KIDS The Jungle Book KIDS (Two Sessions Each). 

Specific duties include:

  • Crafts - organize 3-4 craft projects including preparing materials, using the craft budget, and leading and teaching the project to campers. 

  • Headshots - overseeing and organizing headshot day, ensuring each student and staff member gets a photo, creating production slideshows of the company for performances.

  • Program - organize and draft the performance program in collaboration with the Artistic Director. Collect all necessary materials and oversee printing and prep.

  • Box Office/Shows - During performances, working with the box office as a staff liaison and assisting with ticket check in and door sales with volunteers. 

  • Start of Day/End of Day - space prep, check in with director and teen volunteers, welcoming students, clean up.

  • Rehearsal - join warmup games, maintain schedule, run lines with small groups, assist director and designers throughout the process.

  • Breaks - oversee kids outside, engage in welcoming conversations and connect friendships.

  • Pre-Show - assist in all pre-show prep including costumes, hair, makeup and space prep, oversee recording each performance.

Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years of age

  • High School Graduate 

  • Various experience working with youth 

  • Experience in theatre education and love helping young actors shine onstage

  • Strong leadership skills

Position: Costume Designer & Manager

MTC is seeking to hire a Costume Designer & Manager for BOTH sessions of Finding Nemo KIDSThe Jungle Book KIDS and Something Rotten JR. Please note there are TWO casts of each title, each with 30-42 campers. 

Specific duties include:

  • Communicating with production team members via email and in person.

  • Willingness to adapt to changing needs throughout the rehearsal process.

  • Working collaboratively with the director to create a costume vision for the show. 

  • Using primarily MTC’s costume inventory when possible and accessible rentals. 

  • Working with volunteers to build and/or alter costumes. 

  • Communicating with cast (with assistance from director and stage manager) about their costume responsibilities (in written and verbal form), assisting with acquiring items if needed, and checking all cast members for these items by the deadline on the production calendar. 

  • Attending all of tech week to help students into costumes and prep quick changes and to make adjustments/repairs/alterations as needed.

  • Collecting and checking in all costumes at the end of run, coordinating volunteers for washing/cleaning (in collaboration with director) and returning all costumes to their original storage location. 

  • Staying within allocated costume budgets; communicating with the artistic director and managing director about any budgetary concerns.

Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years of age

  • High School Graduate 

  • Experience in costume design, creation and management

  • Strong organizational and design skills

  • Experience with children and youth

Position: Choreographer
Camp Sessions: Something Rotten JR (completed 6th-9th)

MTC is seeking to hire a Choreographer for BOTH sessions of Something Rotten JR to create an artistic vision for the show. 

Specific duties include:

  • Auditions

    • Selecting, creating and teaching a general audition dance cut from the show.

    • Assisting with the casting of the show through auditions and callbacks and providing movement guidance.

  • Prep

    • Participating in 2-3 initial production meetings in May/June.

    • Creating creative and accessible choreography for middle school campers and making formations for all songs.

    • Collaborating with the director to ensure flow between scenes to songs and how movement continues to tell the story of the musical.

    • Collaborating on the structure of daily schedules and communicating the length of time needed for each song.

    • Assisting with preparing the space for rehearsals.

    • Assist with set strike.

  • Rehearsals

    • Leading and teaching dance warm-ups, rehearsals with the full cast, ensemble groups and individuals to teach all movement and dance within the production.

    • Running musical tracks in rehearsal as needed.

    • Maintaining movement through tech week and performances.

    • Mentoring youth actors both onstage and off.

    • Checking in with staff and maintaining the schedule. 

    • Overseeing students during breaks.

  • Tech

    • Assisting with pre-show preparation including but not limited to assisting with student costumes, make-up and hair and space preparations. 

    • Running a movement warm-up daily for all tech and performances.

Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years of age

  • High School Graduate 

  • Experience in choreography, movement and teaching

  • Strong leadership and classroom management skills

  • Experience with children and youth

  • Great enthusiasm and energy

MTC is seeking to hire a Props Designer/Assistant Stage Manager for Pippin.

Specific duties include:

  • Props Designer duties:

    • Create a prop list and discuss with director any and all needs and design

    • Select all props required for the production.

    • Determining the necessary materials and supplies needed to purchase, within the show budget.

    • Coordinate the construction and completion of props, assisted by staff and campers when needed. 

    • Responsible for tracking props loaned from outside organizations.

    • Organize prop tables with Stage Manager.

    • Produce rehearsal and show props with the show deadline and calendar.

  • Assistant Stage Manager duties:

    • Start of Day/End of Day - space prep, check in with director and stage manager, check-in/out, clean-up.

Position: Sound Designer & Operator

Stipend: $800

MTC is seeking to hire a Sound Designer & Operator for Pippin.

Specific duties include:

  • Attending Designer Runs.

  • Collaborate with the music director to determine orchestral mic’ing needs using MTC’s sound inventory as much as possible.

  • Assist in installing and striking temporary elements of a sound system at the offsite venue (Hopkins High School, Little Theater).

  • Assisting cast members (ages 12-18) put on microphones.

  • Running Mic Checks.

  • Programming and running the sound board (Allen & Heath SQ7) during all tech rehearsals and performances.

  • Coordinate with an A2/deck crew on deck during rehearsals and performances to fix any mic issues.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • High School Graduate 

  • Background with theatre/sound tech and be excited to work with student actors

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with the creative team members
